Upcoming Events:
2025 Education Series: Housing and Transportation, Working Together, September 24 and 25
Presented by Meg Padjen, Community and Economic Development Director, Wasatch Front Regional Council
Housing and transportation issues are often two sides of the same coin.
Utah, along with Idaho and much of the United States, has faced a persistent housing shortage and affordability crisis that continue to evolve. Housing issues have been elevated in state policy and in the work of the Wasatch Front Regional Council (a similar agency to COMPASS) over the past several years in response to this. Addressing these complex issues demands an all-hands-on-deck approach, including both private and public sector collaboration, and working together at all levels of government.
Join COMPASS for one (or both!) of two sessions, described below, to explore innovative strategies and collaborative efforts to thoughtfully guide growth and respond to complex, and intertwined, housing and transportation issues in Utah.
September 24, 2025: A Look at Housing and Transportation Along the Wasatch Front, Today and in the Future
- 5:30 pm Meet and Greet; 6:00 – 8:00 pm Presentation
- COMPASS, 700 NE 2nd Street, Meridian, First Floor Board Room
- Free!
- Intended Audience: All
- RSVP: [email protected] or 208/475-2226
This session will explore the evolution of regional visioning along the Wasatch Front, as well as discuss state policy around housing as it links to the transportation-focused work of the Wasatch Front Regional Council. We will highlight related initiatives housed at the Wasatch Front Regional Council, such as Station Area Planning, as well as other tools and data points that complete the picture.
September 25, 2025: Housing and Transportation Along the Wasatch Front: Getting Technical
- 8:30 am – 10:30 am
- COMPASS, 700 NE 2nd Street, Meridian, First Floor Board Room
- Free!
- Intended Audience: Planning, transportation, development, and housing professionals, though all are welcome
- RSVP: [email protected] or 208/475-2226
This session will also explore the evolution of regional visioning along the Wasatch Front and will unpack the land use component of the Wasatch Choice Vision: Centers. Recent state policy around housing that links to Wasatch Front Regional Council’s work will be summarized, diving into the details of key pieces of legislation that created tools that enable housing production in critical places. The session will also highlight related initiatives housed at the Wasatch Front Regional Council, such as Station Area Planning, as well as tax increment financing tools that aim to implement related plans.
